Thanks! This is also one of my favourite paintings by Dad. I think he's really managed to capture something both of the twisty nature of the tree and also of the hot, summer light of that day. We had gone to a local cove here on Vancouver Island, looking for painting subjects (one of the things we love to do together - we've made many such expeditions over the years) and this is one of the trees we found. This 36" X 48" oil painting depicts a Madrona tree near Victoria, BC. The intention was to express the dynamic aspects of growth, which are particularly well reflected in the twisted, writhing shapes of the branches. The artist finds the Madrona tree to be a particularly interesting natural form to explore.
